Lutheran West Drama Accepted to Participate in Playhouse Square Dazzle Awards

Dazzle-LogoLutheran High School West Drama will once again participate in Playhouse Square’s Dazzle Awards, a program presented by Pat and John Chapman. This year’s award night and showcase will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020. 

This year, 33 high school drama departments from 7 Northeast Ohio counties will be participating in The Dazzle Awards. A full listing can be found at Playhouse Square’s website at

Recognition during the awards ceremony is given out in 15 categories, with awards including Best Musical, Best Actor/Actress, Best Student Orchestra, Best Costume Design, Best Scenic Design, and more. Nominations and awards are based upon evaluations by an independent panel of adjudicators. 

The Dazzle Awards is affiliated with the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (“The Jimmy Awards”), which are presented by The Broadway League Foundation.

In May of 2019, Lutheran High School West Drama’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof” earned two nominations: Best Costume Design and Best Supporting Actress (Jayden Deblock). 

Dazzle_Awards_large-groupLutheran West Drama is thrilled to announce that its 2020 musical production will be Disney’s “Newsies.” The musical will be performed in Lutheran West’s Jochum Performing Arts Center April 3-5, 2020. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7 PM and Sunday’s performance begins at 2 PM. 

This fall, the Drama department will be performing “Any Number Can Die,” which is a spoof on murder mysteries and classic movies from the 1920s and 30s. The plot features stereotypes of classical murder mysteries, such as the reading of a will at midnight, enigmatic and curious-looking house staff, secret passageways, and an old detective working on his first-ever case. The fall play will take place on Friday and Saturday, November 8th & 9th, with shows each evening at 7:30 PM. The Lutheran West Admissions team will be giving campus tours prior to Friday's performance. 

Dazzle-Kids-2019The Playhouse Square Dazzle Awards program offers arts education opportunities throughout the school year and culminates with the Dazzle Awards ceremony, this year to be held on May 16, 2020. Awards are presented to outstanding musical theater productions and students in 14 categories, including Best Musical, Best Actor/Actress, Best Student Orchestra, Best Costume Design, and Best Scenic Design. Nominations and awards are based upon the evaluations of an independent panel of adjudicators. 

The winners of the Best Actor and Best Actress categories will represent Northeast Ohio at The Jimmy Awards in June 2020.
