Personal Fitness

Description: This personal fitness class is required for 1st year physical education students unless they are enrolled in Walking Fitness. This program incorporates classroom instruction, laboratory activities, and physical fitness assessment. During classroom instruction the cognitive concepts of physical fitness are introduced and discussed. During laboratory activities students will have an opportunity to take part in activities that relate to the specific concepts of the fitness unit being studied. Students will have an opportunity to receive instruction in team sports and individual activities (track and roller-skating) in this course.

Homework: Projects and outside classroom assignments take approximately a total of 5 hours for the semester for each of the Physical Education classes.

Further Details: This course is offered in a hybrid format that combines Health and Personal Fitness (each 1 semester classes) into a year long class. Students would earn credit for both classes by taking it in this manner.

Golf/Lifetime Activities

Description: Golf/Lifetime Activities will emphasize low organized group games and recreational activities. Group games will include Ultimate Frisbee, Quick Score, and Team Handball. Recreational activities will include Golf, Bowling, Shuffleboard, Cornhole, Bocce, Disc Golf, and Handball. One week of on-campus roller skating will be included.

Racquet Sports

Description: In this course, one will have the opportunity to learn and practice skills - Touch Football, Volleyball, Basketball, and Slow Pitch Softball (games that were invented in America). Various lead-up games and activities will prepare the student to participate in games and tournaments. Students will have the opportunity to officiate and apply the rules of the various sports. Christian sportsmanship in playing the game, as well as in watching the games, will be emphasized.

Outdoor Adventures

Description: This class would teach students how to enjoy God’s creation of the outdoors in a safe and fun way. Activities offered will be orienteering, fishing, camping, flag rugby, hiking, biking, Frisbee, and archery. Students will need to reserve one or two weekends for outings.

Walking Fitness

Description: The walking activities in this course allow the student to develop adult-like exercise patterns that may be engaged in throughout life. A strong emphasis is placed on the personal development of physical fitness and on understanding the role of physical fitness and vigorous exercise in developing optimal health and well-being. Activities include walking on and off campus, weight room, yoga, step aerobics, fitness testing, fun walks, field trips.

Sports Performance Development
Curricular Area: Physical Education/Health

Prerequisite: Must complete Personal Fitness. Selection by application. Top priority will be given to 3-sport athletes. 
 
 
 
Description: This course is designed for multi-sport athletes who want to develop their God-given athletic abilities to the fullest extent. It emphasized development of muscular strength, explosive power, quickness, running speed, jumping ability, and injury prevention with the goal of improving athletic performance. Students will participate in free weight training, plyometrics, flexibility training, and speed/agility development. These topics will be addressed during both classroom time and practical training time. Both female and male athletes are encouraged to enroll. This class may be taken as a year-long class and may not be taken until Personal Fitness I is completed. It is suggested that the student complete/is taking both Health and Biology.

Homework: Written work approximately 1 hr per week.

Description: Upon completion of this course, the student will have the knowledge to make educated choices in the areas of physical, emotional, social, mental, and spiritual health. Our main goal is to give the student the knowledge necessary to make the many decisions pertaining to their health and well-being that they will face as they complete high school and move on to their adulthoods. Units in this course will cover information on Nutrition and Weight Management, Mental and Emotional Disorders, Drugs and Alcohol, CPR and First Aid, and Physical Diseases and Disorders.

Grading: Tests 40%, assignments 40%, quizzes 20%.

Special Projects: Current reading assignments in health and related magazines.

Homework: Each unit (approximately two weeks) has a packet of various assignments that would require an average of about 15 minutes per day outside of class.
